Cutting and Drilling in the City Is Different
Working in Abu Dhabi City means working around people. Most of our city jobs are in occupied buildings — office towers with tenants upstairs, hotels with guests down the corridor, apartment blocks with families at home. So the job gets planned differently: noisy phases go into evening or weekend slots, work areas get sealed off, and slurry never touches a lobby floor.
The buildings themselves are different too. Many city towers use post-tensioned slabs, where steel cables run through the concrete under tension. Cutting one by accident can fail the slab. This is why every tower slab we touch gets a GPR scan first — the cables get marked on the surface, and the cut or core goes safely between them.
Access is the other challenge. Downtown parking and loading are tight, and drilling rigs are heavy. We coordinate with building management before arrival — service lift bookings, loading bay timing, permits where the building requires them — so the crew starts work on schedule instead of waiting in a truck outside.
Typical city work for us: slab cores for new AC and plumbing risers during office fit-outs, wall openings in hotel renovations, drainage penetrations in restaurant fit-outs, and anchor drilling for structural steel. Whether it’s one core or a full floor of penetrations, the process is the same — scan, mark, cut, clean, sign off.

Can you work in an occupied office tower or hotel?
Yes — that’s most of our city work. We coordinate quiet-hours schedules with building management, seal the work area, wet-cut to control dust, and hand the space back clean. Guests and tenants usually never know we were there.
My building has post-tensioned slabs. Is drilling safe?
Only with scanning. We GPR-scan the slab, mark cable positions on the surface, and place cores between them. We never cut a PT slab blind — severing a tensioned cable can cause sudden slab failure.
How do you get heavy equipment into a downtown tower?
We break the kit into rig, motor, and bits that fit a service lift, and coordinate loading bay timing with building management before arrival. For buildings requiring work permits, send us the forms and we’ll complete them ahead of the visit.
How long does a typical fit-out drilling job take?
A single slab core takes under an hour once set up. A full office floor of AC and plumbing penetrations is usually one working day. We give you a time estimate with the written quote, including setup and cleanup.
Do you provide documentation for building management?
Yes. We can supply our trade license and insurance certificate before work starts, and photos plus a completion note after — whatever your building management or consultant needs for their records.
